Responsibilities of a coach or person leading a sports coaching session


Coaches are held up to high standards. If the team doesn’t receive good results, this can result in the coach being dismissed or sacked.


Being a coach is a responsible job. Here are some of the modern-day responsibilities which coaching staff need to consider:


Remaining within the boundaries of what is expected of a coach – professional conduct.


Applying ethics and values so you have a good reputation.


Making sure the sports environment and equipment is safe for all – health and safety.


Making sure children and young adults are protected and cared for before, during and after practice – safeguarding and well-being.


Respecting the rights of all should be respected and they should also champion the rights of the individual. Coaches should ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to participate regardless of gender, race, age, ability, faith or sexual orientation – equal opportunity.
