How do we collect feedback information to evaluate the coaching session?

‘Thinking Time’
After you’ve done a sport or outdoor session, who do you talk to about the positives and the negatives of that session?
These people could be:
- Team Members
- Coach
- Friends
- Parents
Remember, feedback can be placed in two categories:
- Strengths of session
- Areas for improvements
Now think about:
How can we formally collect this information for a specific coaching session which has been delivered?
Here are some review methods you could use:
- Diary logbooks
- Video of the session
- Questionnaire which participants can fill in (paper or online e.g. Microsoft Forms).
- Feedback from a coaching mentor or assistant coaches.
- Self-reflection questionnaire for coach.
- Quick answer participant questionnaire.
Sportsperson’s Feedback Sheet for the Coach
Here are some ideas you could include in your feedback form.
Remember your feedback form can be presented as a physical paper copy, or an online form such as Microsoft Forms or Survey Monkey, for example.
A simple way of receiving feedback is through using a grading number system (e.g. 1-5) or symbols.
Here are some examples:
1 2 3 4 5
Next, you’ll need questions to ask on the feedback form. Here are some topic examples:
- Communication
- Your performance
- Development of session
- Enjoyed or not?
- Warm up session
- Cool down session
- Demonstration
- Equipment
- Location
