Let’s get started by looking at the role of a Coach. Every athlete and sports team has a coach that can help them reach their full potential.

Every successful coach will have developed their skills and knowledge over many years. One of the best ways to show your experience, knowledge and skills is by creating a CV.

A CV provides a complete summary of your career and qualifications. It’s typically used to apply for jobs, internships, or academic positions in general, but it is also used in the sports industry as well.

Here is a brief outline of what you should include in your CV:
Contact Information

  • Full name
  • Phone number
  • Email address

Education

  • Qualifications obtained with grades and dates
  • Education – schools, colleges or other institution you attended with dates.
  • Relevant coursework (optional) which might be relevant to the job that you’re applying for.

Work Experience

  • Job title(s), company name(s) and dates of employment – all these could be written together for each job you have done.
  • Optional – Key responsibilities and achievements for each job.

Skills

  • Technical skills (e.g., proficiency, use of computers, languages – can you speak Welsh and English etc.).
  • Soft skills (e.g., communication, leadership, team work etc.).

Certifications and Training (if applicable)

  • Any relevant certifications or courses completed such as Key Skills.

Projects (optional)

  • Personal or professional projects that showcase your skills and expertise (E.g. Worked as a football under-14 coach for local village team).

Awards and Honours (if applicable)

  • Recognition or accolades you’ve received.

Volunteer Experience (if applicable)

  • Any unpaid work that demonstrates skills or involvement in your community. (E.g. Helping organise a golf tournament at your local club, assisting the gymnastic coach with the under 11s category etc.).

References

  • Usually, “Available on request” or you can provide specific contact details for referees. Two are often required, sometimes linked to work or education or someone who knows you in a personal capacity or through volunteering work.
